Gnutti Cirillo S.p.A., parent company of the Gnutti Group, was founded in 1951 in Lumezzane (BS) as a mechanical company for the construction of equipment and molds. Today it is a world leader in hot stamping and mechanical processing of brass and other nonferrous metals.
The Company’s expansion is highlighted by the inauguration in 2000 of a new plant in Odolo (BS), an important and modern industrial complex specializing in hot stamping, thanks to state-of-the-art modern equipment.
Over the years, the Group’s internationalization process has continued with the establishment of a company in the USA. The company operates as a logistics and customer care center on behalf of Gnutti Cirillo for the North American and Canadian markets.

Foreword

The growing relevance of ESG issues in business contexts and business-to-business relations, as well as the need for transparency to the market, prompted the Company to embark on a path aimed at preparing its Sustainability Report.
As exempt from legislative obligations at the time of the project, Gnutti Cirillo’s decision was on a voluntary basis and aimed at continuing to make an active contribution to decarbonization, energy efficiency and improved internal working conditions, as well as a more transparent approach to relations with all key stakeholders.
The ultimate goal was to share with all stakeholders the importance of collective commitment to a sustainable future in the face of risks from climate change.

Project

For the preparation of the first Sustainability Report, Gnutti Cirillo seeks support from PRAXI.
The first activity carried out was the materiality analysis, which made it possible to identify the priority aspects for the Company in relation to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) of the European Agenda 2030. This phase was facilitated by the support of an internal key figure, who, working with management, coordinated the retrieval of the necessary data.
In anticipation of the new European CSRD – Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, the methodological basis was identified in the GRI – Global Reporting Initiative standards, the globally most representative principles of sustainability performance.

The Sustainability Report 2022 was implemented to increase transparency to the market. In addition to presenting the main achievements in 2022, it illustrates the Company’s contribution to the three pillars “People, Planet, Prosperity” and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.

Results

The ongoing project, which at the time of this case study sees phase 1 completed, has resulted in the production of the Gnutti Cirillo Sustainability Report, the first in the company’s history, within the required timeframe and laying the groundwork for the application of a replicable methodology in future years.

  • What the structure provides
    • The first chapter is devoted to a presentation of the Company with focus on internal governance, risk management policy, stakeholder relations system, existing sustainability projects and materiality matrix.

The second chapter deals with the social part of ESG governance, an acronym for Environment, Social & Governance: the actions that Gnutti carries out in the field of sustainability are analyzed here.

The third chapter highlights environmental issues in terms of the raw material supply chain, energy transition and consumption, waste management, water utilization, emissions, and actions to mitigate environmental impacts.

Finally, the fourth and final chapter refers to the more strategic aspects, in that the sustainability journey is a real initial step toward greater attention to ESG issues, but also of the economic-financial benefits that come with it.

The Client was also supported in drafting the Sustainability Policy, a key pillar of the plan to integrate sustainability into the Company’s operations. In fact, this policy is the starting point and the core for the subsequent updating of the organization’s entire set of procedures.

Benefits from the preparation of the Sustainability Report

The process of preparing the Sustainability Report at Gnutti Cirillo was a fundamental step forward in understanding and awareness of ESG issues, revealing their importance in terms of business livelihood as well.

Client engagement in the creation of the Sustainability Report generated two key benefits:

  • from the point of view of corporate image and reputation, the report has been positively received by stakeholders, who identify Gnutti Cirillo as a company oriented not only to quality, but also to respect for sustainability.
  • in terms of spreading awareness about ESG issues, the project played a key role in preparing the company for the integration of SDGs goals at all levels, anticipating the January 1, 2026 legislative obligation imposed by Directive 2022/2464.

The benefits of this activity are already tangible: the management levels that actively participated in retrieving the necessary data have initiated improvement projects aligned with the Sustainability Policy.

In addition, the project has provided an on-the-job training opportunity for some key internal figures who, from a basic knowledge of ESG issues, have become key contact persons within the Company.

Future

The support provided to the Company for the next Sustainability Report as well, will include a digitization of procedures, with the aim of automating the collection and preparation of key data in accordance with the required standards.

The Client, in this way, will gain greater autonomy, freeing up time and resources to devote to more valuable activities for the transition to sustainability, which is increasingly crucial for corporate profitability.

Efforts to create the Sustainability Report improved the company’s image and reputation among stakeholders and spread awareness about ESG issues, preparing the company for the integration of SDGs goals in advance of the 2026 legislative requirement.
